What path are you on?

Yesterday we kicked off our series for the next month: ROAD SIGNS. Our “bottom line” was simply this: Your DIRECTION, not your INTENTION, determines your DESTINATION. We journeyed through Proverbs 7 and looked at a story of a young man what was clearly on a path where his intention didn’t trump his direction. The question for us to think about was this: What path are you on and where is it taking you?

Over the next 31 days, we’re journeying through the book of Proverbs together. And while we will dance around the Proverbs during the VINE, we are encouraging everyone to read through the Proverbs on their own over the next 31 days. The book of Proverbs is all about wisdom, and all of us need more of that. Last night we read through Proverbs 1 together in our LIFE GROUPS and CRUX, so today. . . we’re onto Proverbs 2!

Remember: if you are fumbling through the thee’s and thou’s, there’s nothing wrong with reading another version. Go to www.youversion.com and try another version (NLT, CEV, or NIV might be good places to start)!

What insight/wisdom have you gained so far? What have you learned from God’s Word?

My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. (Proverbs 2:1-5)

FALL EXCITEMENT AT THE PARK

It was a blistering hot day in the city. Fortunately there were plenty of water balloons and ice cream to go around. Yesterday afternoon at Eagle Creek Park we officially kicked onto the new school year with games, food and a lot of fun. If you didn’t have the opportunity to join us you can download an electronic copy of the calendar and the fall program brochure for the scoop on all the dates and events coming your way this fall at Chapel Rock.

You can also check out some of the pictures from the fall kickoff here.

CELEBRATE!

We’ve had quite a summer. This Sunday, we are setting aside some time to celebrate all that’s happened this summer… the growth, the steps forward, and some commitments made. Please be here to join us this Sunday morning in the Chapel at 9:15 to hear about some of the growth our students experienced this summer. See you Sunday!

CIY MOVE: Day 5

Wow.. we have had an AMAZING week. Unfortunately I’ve only been able to update through my phone with lack of internet… bummer! We’ve had 2 students dedicate their lives to vocational ministry, 3 rededicate their lives, and all of us have committed to Kingdom Work! When your students get home tomorrow, ask them about their Kingdom Worker card. They are doing everything from organizing a 5K run to memorizing 2nd Timothy. I’ll update thoroughly when we get home. See you tomorrow!

CIY MOVE: Mid-week Update

Hey all! Wow… I cannot believe it is already Tuesday. This afternoon was the first chance I had to even touch my computer, so, sorry for those of you that have anticipated an update, I’ve been with your students! :o) We’ve had an amazing trip so far. On Sunday we all went up to Okoe Lake and swam, played Euchre, and laid low until the conference started at night.

We have been studying through 1 & 2 Timothy all week, discussing the relationship that Paul had with Timothy. Sunday night’s focus was GRACE… taking a look into the heart of God and just how much he loves us. Yesterday the students (and leaders!) were challenged with the TRUTH. We read from the Truth, learned about the Truth, talked about the Truth, and wrestled with the Truth. Last night, several students made some big commitments about the Truth that I’m sure they will tell you all about.

Today’s theme has been all about GODLINESS, and this morning we talked about the difference between trying and training. There’s much more to come tonight, and I’m excited to see how the students grow even deeper in their “training” for godliness in their journey with Christ.

Thanks for being patient. Stay tuned, and keep praying for your students… they are being challenged!

Summer in the Son: Day Four

We’ve had an amazing week. The theme this year was TORN. The first day, our theme was TORN from God; we talked about how we have all been torn from our Creator because of our sin. We all had the opportunity during worship to write out things that have separated us from God on torn piece of cloth. On Tuesday, our theme for the day was TORN apart, and the cloths from the previous day were across the stage for us to take and pray for. All the cloths were later strung together in a veil, representing the veil that separated us from God before Jesus. On Wednesday, our theme was TORN down, and the “veil” fell during worship, representing what Christ did for us on the cross. Today, our theme has been TORN by God. Our challenge tonight was to think about how our hearts have been torn by things that break His heart. All week-long, we have learned about Jacmel, Haiti and how we become involved. Our goal for the week was to raise $3,000 so that more people could have access to clean water. Tonight, they took an offering and the students raised $5,255.65! All that to say, it’s been an eventful week, and your students are coming home changed!
